FAQ's

What do you do at Reading Experts?

For students who are in first grade through twelfth grade, we begin with a thorough assessment which usually takes three to four hours. During this assessment, one of our reading specialists will administer various assessments so that a reading treatment program can begin to be developed for your child. After the assessments have been completed, a meeting will be scheduled and the parents will receive a full report of all the assessments that were administered and we will then give a recommendation of how many sessions per week we recommend your child will need to achieve reading success. We will discuss the reading treatment program that has been designed for your child and begin scheduling session appointments. Progress reports will be sent home to the parents after approximately every sixteen sessions.

Do you have special programs for children in preschool and kindergarten?

We have reading rediness sessions for our youngest students who are below first grade. Some children in first grade would benifit from these sessions as well. Assessments will be done as a part of the first two to three sessions. Reading treatment sessions for our youngest students are 30 minutes.

How is reading Treatment different from tutoring?

Reading Treatment is different from tutoring in that the sessions are uniqely designed for your child. The way each child learns is as different as a fingerprint. No two children learn to read the same way. That's why we spend time getting to know your child through assessments and a parent questionnaire so that we do not waste time during our sessions working on skills that your child has already mastered and time treating their specific difficulties can be maximized.

Tutoring programs usually help students with their homework, work on general skills, and usually follow a program that is implemented with each child the same way. Although many children benefit from these programs, not all children can benefit.
